FAQ

Polyester and vinyl ester resins

The light-curing synthetic resins used are made of unsaturated polyester (UP) or vinyl ester resin (VE) blended with a special UV light initiator that triggers the curing process.

For liners with a wall thickness of more than 17.5 mm, the light-curing resin is mixed with peroxide to ensure proper curing on the entire length of the liner by means of a combination of UV light and reaction heat.

  • Circular profiles DN 150 – DN 1600
  • Oval profiles 200/300 – 1200/1800

A Brandenburger Liner BB2.5 can be used to rehabilitate decrept sewers of all materials (such as concrete, sandstone, fibre cement) with a circular internal diameter of 150 mm to 1600 mm. More shapes (oval, arch, and special profiles) are feasible with an equivalent circular diameter fitting the given size.

If the site conditions are rather challenging you might want to discuss matters with our application engineering team before starting the actual work.

  • 3 mm to 17.5 mm
  • 18.2 mm to 25.2 mm with combination curing

Our liners are made by winding pre-impregnated glass fibre composite laminates. Thanks to our patented Brandenburger winding process we are able to produce liners with a wall thickness of 3.5 mm to 25.2 mm, in 0.7 mm steps. Liners of more than 17.5 mm wall thickness are made using peroxide as an additive (depending on the diameter).

The stated wall thicknesses are fully structural and feature an additional + 0.1 mm wear protection layer.

Up to 300 metres, depending on the liner diameter

The maximum length of a Brandenburger Liner BB2.5 is determined by the maximum length that can be put in a crate and drawn with a winch, or by the cable length of the UV unit.

Upon coming off the conveyor belt, each Brandenburger Liner BB2.5 is folded (“piled”) in a customized wooden in-house made crate and taken to its destination.

GERMANY AND EUROPE:

For Germany and Europe, the delivery time is approx. 10 working days from receiving a proper purchase order.

WORLDWIDE:

Overseas shipment may take between 6 and 8 weeks from receiving a proper purchase order.

Delivery times may vary depending on work load.

Our Order Processing Centre staff will be happy to assist you with any queries you might have.

The liner should be stored at temperatures between +5°C and +30°C in a protected place. The recommended maximum storage period is 26 weeks from the date of manufacture.

The date of expiry is noted in the accompanying documents attached to the liner crate.

In wintery weather conditions (with temperatures between +5°C and -5 °C) the liner may be transported and installed when the following requirements are met:

Liner storage:

+5°C to +10°C, with no more than two hours between transport and installation of the liner

  • polyester resin (general application, municipal wastewater)
  • vinyl ester resin (industrial application, chemical wastewater)

Analysing the wastewater from the sewers that are due for renovation prior to starting the actual work provides a basis to calculate the resistance of the liner against chemical irritants.

Adaptation to unusual orientation and diameter:
The Brandenburger Liner BB2.5 can compensate sewer bends up to 15° and fluctuations in diameter.

The liner is slightly undersized so it can adapt to dimensional changes of 5% of the internal diameter, depending on local conditions.

On rare occasions, the material in a bend may develop small wrinkles between inner and outer radiuses.

The Brandenburger Liner BB2.5 is made in three versions:

  • Interior protective foil/calibration hose: Polyamide (PA) and polyethylene (PE), styrene-proof, foil hose is removed after curing is completed.
  • Version 1: Grey external foil, UV light protection, laterally welded on the outside over the entire circumference, made of a multi-layer PE/PE/PA/PE structure.
  • Version 2: Same as version 1 but with a second, white, external foil. This foils serves as an additional external protection (AEP) against mechanical damage during installation.
  • The upper third of the liner is coated with an extra adhesive foil (outer seam).
  • Version 3: Same as version 1 but a full preliner is recommended in excess groundwater conditions. In this case, version 2 does not apply.

From DN 600 the Brandenburger Liner BB2.5 is always supplied in version 2, i. e. with additional external protection.

For smaller diameters, we can provide version 2 (with a 2nd external foil) as an option with additional charge.

In all intermediate shafts, the liner must be protected against overstretching, as this could cause the liner to burst. This can be done, e.g., by way of a support cap. Moreover, using these support caps allows for taking representative samples.

Yes. Please get in touch with our application engineering team to discuss the matter beforehand.

No, our Brandenburger Liner BB2.5 is currently not potable water certified.

Sewer installation

The liner is inserted into the sewer through the inspection shafts and drawn through the sewer by means of a winch. (see fig. 2).

Observe the maximum drawing forces (see table) when installing the liner

According to our specifications, choose the appropriate power and number of UV lamps and the light chain speed relative to liner diameter and wall thickness.

Our sales and application engineering departments are happy to provide you with the appropriate curing tables for your UV unit or light chain used.

The light chain is inserted into the pipe liner (with the UV lamps turned off) and drawn through the entire length. The light chain is equipped with a camera. This makes it possible to check the proper installation of the liner prior to curing.

Then the UV lamps are lit and the light chain is drawn back to the UV unit. The drawing speed depends on the number and the radiation intensity of the UV lamps and on the liner dimensions. (see fig. 3)

After curing, the liner ends are cut off and the inner foil is removed

No, the light-curing synthetic resins used are made of unsaturated polyester (UP) or vinyl ester resin (VE) blended with a special UV light initiator that triggers the curing process. This reaction can only be started by UV light.

No, after curing the liner ends are cut off and the inner foil is removed completely.

The liner surface is protected by a high-resin inner layer, which has been tested and confirmed by DIBt certification.

The pipe liner ends and the half-shells in the intermediate shafts are infiltration-proof sealed with suitable methods. A TV acceptance inspection is typically performed upon completion.

Different methods are possible for mortar on the basis of epoxy resin, or metal sleeves.

Yes, you can open the inlets directly after curing. Before opening the inlets, perform a leakage test.
